Where should I start? - Fresher from Hong Kong seeking for advices
Hello all! First post in WSO :)
I am a fresher in a top local schools in Hong Kong, majoring in Economics and Finance. After browsing different forums in WSO and seeking advices from alumni, i found my interests in the market. I would love to break into trading or even in hedge fund upon graduation.
I have brief understanding about different industries after browsing those front page posts and I understand it is kinda difficult to break in. I have been trying to learn the market by reading daily financial news and those youtube tutorials for options in my free time. However, it seems to be a messy and unorganised learning method. Therefore, I am wondering is there a better way for me to start and how?
Thanks a lot for you spending time on reading this post. Any comments or advice are all appreciated.
Hi market-enthusiast, any of these topics helpful:
Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
Follow the market and maybe trade a little yourself if you have some savings. Make sure you have business level proficiency in Cantonese, Mandarin and English (maybe Korean/Japanese if you are already fluent in the others, with Korean likely being the better choice). Take some Computer Science classes in school on top of your core curriculum. Maintain a good gpa and most importantly apply for internships.
Thanks for your insights! Would you mind to elaborate a bit on why you think Korean or Japanese is a good language to learn? As I have heard people recommending sth like Spanish or French due to its wide usage.
Also, I fully understand that knowing computer language is useful but how does it help in trading? I am currently learning both Python and VBA on my own, would you recommend me to learn some coding work which is more advance as compared to Python.
Again, thanks a lot for your input.
