how to go from google/facebook to venture capital?

Hello everyone,

i'm a junior at a decent tech school (~ucsd, purdue, uiuc) studying cs/ce, and i am going to be an apm intern at google/facebook. I was wondering whether the top vc's recruit from the google apm program. looking at linkedin and the bios on firm websites, it doesnt appear that many apms are hired at top firms, but i've heard (anecdotally) that exits are decent. Also, there is a chance that i may have to take an engineering, and not apm role at google (abysmal intern to ft conversion rate for apm interns). would i still be able to get good vc roles if i do 2 years as an engineer, then transition to pm? Or would i need to get an mba then network hard to land a job?

Also, im in nyc right now but a transition to sf should be super easy, once at g/fb. would the west coast be more open to someone with my background?

Thanks

I would network internally with the various ventures team at Google or FB. They also have an office in NYC. Even though they won't hire you on the spot at this point, it is helpful to have at least met a few from the team and maybe get advice?

If you are purely looking at VCs outside of these companies, the route to that goal is explained throughout WSO.
