Adding more colour to the above poster, currently fairly close to the market so think I can share some broad secular trends below:

  • AI, Machine Learning, Deep Tech are all massive areas of focus. Big question over defensibility given the pace of change at the minute, some 'AI companies' have been building for years and now is their golden moment. Key differentiator here is access to data and more specifically how proprietary YOUR data set is vs competitors
  • ESG, CleanTech, Sustainable Energy generation etc. Whether you agree with the sentiment or not, LPs and governments around the world have shifted focus and GPs are now taking this seriously. Anything related to EVs is hot, vertical farming and agricultural innovation also sub-sectors within to watch
  • Crypto, blockchain and underlying DeFi technologies are still on watchlists, albeit less of a focus. a16z just announced they'll be opening an office in London, other T1s are shifting away from US given regulatory upheaval and Europe seem to be making a land grab.

Big caveat is that the market is really tough right now and a lot of uncertainty about the future remains. Hope this helps.
