Is a VC internship relevant to investment banking?
I was able to secure a fall internship as a business development intern at a small vc firm. However, my goal is to go into investment banking and I'm not sure how much this aligns with what I would like to do. I will be doing research on companies, pitching, working on deals, which are all very relevant tasks to IB, but I'm not sure about the job title. Simultaneously, I'm considering consulting as well and this title seems like it would be more relevant. Please let me know and thank you in advance!

You can spin any finance-related internship into a meaningful argument for why you are a good IB candidate. You will learn a lot.
I'm just not sure of the title "business development"
LOL the only title that matters is INTERN - whatever comes after that does not matter.
Will you have a chance to learn why the business development ideas and initiatives are relevant to the VC ideas? I feel like that is a pretty applicable skill in the context of any investment thesis.
There will be similar skills that are used in both IB and CD that you can develop as well.
Be open minded about this and think about what your roll actually is.
Thanks for your advice! I'll definitely be more open-minded about it.
Agree with this. Just having some finance internships (whether banking, PE, VC, Asset Management etc.) is a good start.
People get that it's generally hard to get internship experience early, and anything that can demonstrate interest is a step in the right direction.
