Is it possible to exit to VC in 1 year or less?
Just started at a respected (not top tier but ~Jefferies level) bank and am thinking that I would like a role at a VC. Assuming I'm not looking to join the Sequoia's of the world but just a solid shop with a good culture, is that feasible? What steps can I take to try and line something like this up? For context I went to HYP and have a CS degree.
not to bump this but hey, bump
Yeah it's possible - you've got a good enough background to break in. Try to network a lot. Cold-email VCs, grab virtual coffees with them, keep yourself up to date on VC and tech knowledge (substack email newsletters are the new hip thing for VCs so you can subscribe to a couple).
Not to be annoying but would this be feasible. Stick around at my firm for at least a year (learn some core skills like modeling and general business acumen improvements) --> join a startup (see some I'm pretty excited about with ~100 people) in a strategy / ops role --> try and land at a VC
Obviously this plan is subject to change because I thought I'd want to be in banking to the VP level until I hit the desk, but is this a path that COULD work?
I don't want to make a career limiting move by leaving banking before being promoted or recruiting to buyside, but I think this could be a more fulfilling and enjoyable path.
is it better or preferred to get into VC via strat consulting or IB?
