Negotiating a Higher VC Analyst Salary Out of Undergrad

I know a lot of people are going to say that I should just take what I get out of undergrad, but I wanted to see if there would be a recommended way to negotiate slight salary bump. My base comp is $80k, and there is a $5-20k bonus range. As far as I am concerned, if there is wiggle room, I should attempt to maximize my earnings.

How would you go about trying to add a 5-10k bump onto the salary without putting a bad taste in the hiring manager's mouth?

Additionally, what should I expect in a standard hiring contract?

Tell them about another imaginary offer you got for 90k, say that you prefer the position at 80k bc the team spirit etc and the firm ambition fit you well blablabla... then ask them to align

Pretty unlikely they will move a grad analyst's salary - you have no leverage and there's 100 kids out there who would take it at $80k - so I wouldn't push too hard over a tiny amount. I also wouldn't ask this unless you are okay potentially losing the offer.

"I really appreciate the offer and think it'd be a great fit, however based on my research and personal budgeting, I was hoping to be at $90k to start. Is there any way we could bring base up to that number?"

I also would not lie about another offer with higher comp. My firm asks for proof of the salary in writing if you do that.
