Kinda screwed this year up, no internship plans this summer, try PWM now?

Hi,

So long story short, I kinda fucked this year up. Right now I am sitting on a 3.55 GPA, not horrible but I go to a non-target so I was told that I need to have a GPA north of 3.8+. Still have time, and could potentially finish the year with a high 3.6 or barely tipping 3.7 (which I'm obviously aiming for).

So the sky is not falling but I’m disappointed in myself but I have time to fix it.

So I’ve struck out on internships (though honestly I didn't try as hard as I should/could have). There is an entrepreneur start-up fair that my school is hosting (not really advertised that well, but I was told a lot of people there would love to take unpaid interns). I plan on going to that, but I’m not sure what I should expect and wondering if I should look into PWM still. Too late for that?

My high school has a fairly strong network, I was thinking about contacting the director of alumni affairs and seeing if he could help me out.

Should I start cold-calling random PWM places in my area. I know that UBS and Wachovia have offices real close to me. I googled my hometown and saw that Piper Jeffrey has an office here, Edward Jones, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Wells Fargo, Charles Schwab, Stifel Nicolaus, a couple random local shops, etc…

Going through linkedin, apparently an alum of my high school is a MD at a small IB. Well normally I wouldn’t try as a freshman but this bank seems pretty small and it can’t hurt to ask. Problem is that it is too small, can’t find it on google, only place that shows up is in Maryland. Don’t really have a way to contact him either.

Bear in mind, I won’t be done with school until around June 10thish so I do have a little bit of time.

What should I do? In my head I was just planning on cold calling a couple of places, introducing myself and basically asking for an unpaid internship/chance to learn, etc…

Any other general advice?

Thanks!

FusRoDah^is that true or are you enrique's new troll account?

why are you worrying about your GPA, its fine.

that is actually serious, I had some great experiences non banking wise + i was a cool guy.

Networked with MD, went to highschool+college

Yeah sorry I know I sound kinda whiny when I said that but I guess I'm just pissed at myself for screwing up and not trying harder/having piss poor time management when looking back it wouldn't have taken that much extra effort to get a better grade in a couple of my classes.

But I still have time to raise it and 3.5-3.6 isn't a bad spot to be in and the end of freshman year. I go to a non-target which kinda sucks, but we've placed a few people on Wall Street BBs and MM banks.

Big part of me just wants to enjoy summer, I feel like I should enjoy summer while I still can lol but I know getting anything finance/business related will be a big help getting an internship next summer, sophomore summer.

eh. thanks guys!

Whatever you do don't take summer classes! Banks look at the and think you couldn't handle your original college.

My friend got rejected that way

edit: too late....

lol, wait really? I'm just knocking out gen eds. Some kids at my school skip out on accounting classes because supposedly my school makes the intro accounting classes harder than it has to be. But I'm not really doing something like that,

But I'm gonna be taking a class in bio 101 lol and maybe German 101 (or whatever the first class is), with the intention of continuing the series to German 102 at my school in the fall.
