looking for PWM internship...initial response from partner but no follow through

I sent out a number of cold emails to PWM firms in my area a while back and almost two weeks ago got a response from a partner at one of these firms who is also an alumnus of the school I currently attend.

He asked me if I was still interested in some work this summer and he mentioned developing a couple of Asset Management projects for me to work on that would be of use for the firm. I replied expressing my interest and gratitude but didn't hear back from him for over a week. I sent a second email again stating my interest if the opportunity was still available, but haven't heard anything since the initial response.

I just wanted some thoughts on why this would happen. Should I give the guy a call? Should I take the lack of response to my follow ups as a change of heart?

Thanks a lot for your help. This is my first post, but I've been reading through this site a lot over the past few months and have gained such great insights.

I actually had a very similar experience over the last few weeks. I have one internship pretty much on lockdown, but wanted a plan B. The plan B guy I had a pretty solid connection with, emailed him and he asked me to call him. I ended up calling him about 4 or 5 times over two weeks. Once we did finally talk, he told me he could offer me some experience. He also mentioned that some employers will be unresponsive as a way to test your ambition. So it could be that or perhaps he is just busy, or maybe he did really lose interest (but he would probably just save you both time and tell you that, if that was the case.) So I would just say stay at it, call him maybe twice a week until you get in touch. I would definitely continue exploring other options though, can never be too safe.

Good luck.
