Career in IB or Management Consulting after a "Tech" College

My kid's first choice college is rarely mentioned on WSO but was admitted to MIT, JHU, Swarthmore, UVA, and UMCP so far. We should hear back from the Ivies in early April - applied to all except Dartmouth and Cornell. After a discussion this past weekend, the kid is leaning towards MIT unless H or Y offer admission. The intended majors are Economics and Computer Science. May replace Economics with a Sloan Business option down the road but CS is a keeper.

From a career perspective, what are your thoughts about MIT for IB or MC if H or Y does not plan out?

By the way, UVA was be the most expensive based in his merit/financial aid package and UMCP would be free - Banneker/Key Scholar. Also, applied to all top LACs and USC. From a social/networking perspective, there is great chance of playing on the men's tennis team.

Your kid sounds smart, should do well at getting into either IB or MC from MIT.

Although I have to ask, do you want your kid to enter those fields or do they want to?

Great question especially with all the horrible stories about the culture. Wants to try it out (and live in NYC for a few years) before launching a Startup. Supposedly, MIT is great for the entrepreneurship track.
