FT MBA Associate Hiring
I did an internship last summer and really liked everyone in my group, but it was not my top choice and I've since decided that I'd rather be in a different city. I did get a full-time offer and accepted it because hiring was looking pretty bleak in August and I had an exploding offer.
I see a lot of lateral spots popping up and am curious if any banks are hiring additional associates FT. Should I try to make the move now? If not, how long do I need to stay at my bank before lateraling?
I appreciate your help.
Bump
Post summer laterals are usually done immediately after the offer and before accepting, but COVID might have changed things. Wouldn’t surprise me if banks underoffered or are busier than expected and would take an A0 lateral.
Don’t think it hurts to ask. Best approach would be to tap your network first.
Would it be risky to try at banks where I don’t have a network?
On a similar boat. How about reaching out to a bank that gave me an SA offer that I rejected, but decided I want to go back to them FT? Should I consider that a burned bridge?
Wondering the same. I denied an offer and received a friendly response, but I hope to stay in touch over the summer to keep the door open for a lateral. Not sure if I should consider it a burned bridge.
I would absolutely ping those banks you were interested in. Referral bonuses are at all time highs and everyone needs additional people. I also know a number of people who have left from top groups because they realized it wasn't for them - so I absolutely think there's a need. I would ping alumni at the banks you're interested and just asked to connect and catch up.
The only thing I worry about with alumni is that they might think it’s a bad look that I have already accepted elsewhere.
I'm about to intern as a summer associate at a BB in NY but don't want to move there FT. My current city is another hub for IB (San Fran., Chicago, Houston), and I want to stay here post MBA but don't want to cover the industry (Tech, Oil & Gas) the group covers at my location. Any chance the coverage group I am interning with would allow me to work at the bank's office in my city and go to NY as needed full-time? This is mainly an issue with my fiance as she does not want to move. I am thinking about how to approach this, and what options I have with the bank I am interning. Also, when I should start networking with other banks or corporates in my preferred city in case working outside of NY is not option.
So you're from Houston
Would this be a really shitty move after accepting an offer?
