A new grads from applied math is looking for advice!
Dear all,
Glad to learn this forum. I am an applied math Ph.D and minored in computer science. I have been looking for the buy-side jobs for a while, but hardly find a match. I am really not sure whether it's because my skill set is not a good fit or the job markets prefer to the seniors. Or other reasons I am not aware of. Any one can give me some good hints and suggestions? Thanks!
Btw, My background is in mathematical modeling, scientific computing, and high performance computing. My thesis is mainly about modeling, developing fast algorithms for large-scale simulations. I am also familiar with machine learning and deep learning.
Make a LinkedIn and fill it out with your research/coursework/etc. Most of these jobs are filled through headhunters. There are plenty of them on LinkedIn. Just find them and connect/reach out. Based off of what you have said, you are more than qualified to be placed into junior PhD quant roles. Finance knowledge is often not required. If you're at a top PhD program you should reach out to Renaissance Technologies.
