Accepting Offer
I recently accepted an offer for FT. I was wondering if it would be nice to email my interviewers (I got the offer before I could send thank you notes) and a couple other people I met during the recruitment process thank you notes and let them know I accepted the offer. Just wanted to check if this is standard. Thanks!
Won't hurt to send a quick email thanking them and saying you look forward to working with them. In all likelihood they won't remember come summer 2018

serious question on post acceptance of a job offer (Originally Posted: 02/15/2010)
So last Tuesday I was extended an offer by a MD who interviewed me. He asked me to keep in touch and "email him" til the summer program starts. Maybe it was just me, but he really WANTED me to keep in touch. He said he pushed very strongly for me and was really impressed. I don't want to disappoint him or ruin my chances for FT recruiting, since I am sure he has a say. So:
Some questions:
1) I didn't send him a thank you email after he called me because after my interview I already sent him a thank you email. I figured it was repetitive to send another thank you email after his call. Was this a mistake? I thanked him like 3 times during the call. Or, should I send a thank you card?
2) So he just told me to contact him and email him.I don't know if he meant email him with questions, update on my school progress, random questions on the market (?), etc. I honestly don't have any questions for him at this point. All my questions are towards HR (housing, etc).
3) I want to send him a few professional questions so as not be rude or unappreciative. PLEASE HELP ME THINK OF QUESTIONS. He is the MD for fixed income S&T btw.
3) The MD is pretty friendly and cool, he is younger and because we are from the same school, the same major, from the same town, etc there was a good connection. I feel like maybe I should have been more professional with him. rather than talking as "friends" (for example, I made the error of saying hey when he called). how can you maintain rigid professionalism with a MD/higher level senior banker when they are being cool/friendly? I figure it better to be more formal than informal, but would this be seen as weird?
I AM LOOKING FOR SERIOUS ADVICE. Thanks!
Did you actually signed the offer ? Little confused here.
yes I signed it
So you signed for a SA but are worried if your behaviour will undermine the chances for FT ? I simply don't see your problem. Some MDs are just friendly and outgoing...just assume its possible. You should be fine as long as you keep at least a certain level of professionalism here which I think you maintained.
make sure this dude doesn't wanna get into your pants first. but then sure ask him questions about the market or his opinion on stuff. some people are just bored or friendly
Hah, At Citi, the MD who interviewed me and then extended me a SA offer told me the same thing. That he "pushed hard" for me.. blah blah.. I then proceeded to badger him weekly with questions. He was enthusiastic to start with then his replies became more and more erratic and then he just stopped replying to my mails. I didn't see/meet him at all during the SA stint.
Point: They say just for the heck of it, to keep in touch and ask questions, just don't go overboard with it like I did. Maybe only 1-2 mails till you start the SA. Also, is he the MD of your allocated desk or the head of FI S&T. There are multiple FI S&T MDs, depending on team.
That sounds good, I'll probably email him to ask how I can prepare for the internship, maybe what to read, and etc
Being overly professional/rigid with this guy sounds like a bad idea, obviously you guys had a connection and he is being pally with you. You're much better off being friends with an MD than being just another cog in the machine.
