I haven't come across a go-to database. This was more off the top of my head. If you look around Google long enough you might be able to find a list like "The 20 largest activist hedge funds."
Would you mind PMing me the list when you complete it?

harbinger is very active in a lot of restruturings and investment in distressed debt. matlin patterson is another one.

This is work-related... anyone happen to know/know where I could find the top 10 activist hedge funds by AUM? You'd think it'd be easy but it's been a huge fucking pain.

It depends on how activist you're talking, as some of the funds on these lists strain that definition, but I'd start with a list of the largest hedge funds, and go down until you have ten activist funds by cross referencing with these lists:
