Advice Needed: Transition from CF to PE
Hey WSO! I was recently approached by a Private Equity firm for an opportunity to join the team as an FP&A Manager but just was promoted in July at my current employer to a Sr. Financial Analyst in FP&A. When I moved into the Sr. Analyst FP&A role, I was already working for the company and was given the opportunity based on some professional relationships I created, but was not given any type of raise in compensation for the move (disheartening, but I knew the title change was good for my career path).
For some additional context, two of the analysts left our group within the last month, so the existing team's workload has been taking the burden since their departures. About two months ago, I was approached for an interview with this MM Private Equity firm and after 7 interviews, they've chosen to make me an offer for nearly double my current salary.
It's obvious to me that taking this Private Equity offer is likely the best option for my career; it provides me with a managerial title, a better work-life balance, and a large increase in pay. However, I'm skeptical to jump on board so quickly since I've only held my current role for 3 months, there is a new potential opportunity to move up the chain after the two analyst departures, and the chance that leaving so abruptly would ruin those professional relationships I worked so hard to create.
Just curious what you all would do in a situation like this one. For personal reasons, I'm leaning toward the P/E opportunity as I do have a wedding to pay for on top of an MBA I'm expecting to graduate with in December.
Any insights would be much appreciated!
This is a no brainer, forget the company you're working for. They promoted you in title only, dumped a bunch more work on you because other people left, and didn't increase your comp.
If you're only worried about losing your established professional relationships, you will have much better ones through the PE network.
