Pop-punk all day long
Rap, R&B or Jason Mraz(type) music. Idk what genre Jason Mraz is.. But rap/hiphop all day! Feel like I'm the only one at my fund that listens to rap/hiphop. fk those new age trappers/mumble rap fks that are out now...
Great! I love HipHop and rap! Biggie is the best, but I also love Jayz, or like Tyga, Rae, Migos etc :D
Jay-z Reasonable Doubt, IMO the greatest rap album of all time. Lyrics, instrumentals and so much bravado it will make you feel like you're in the back of a chauffeured black Maybach.
1000% Agree!
Dead Presidents II is like the bible to me
I love Jay Z but Reasonable Doubt is not the greatest rap album of all time. Illmatic & Aquemini are both better, can likely think of a few more if I wanted to. I would put it in the top 10 though.
Phil Collins and Huey Lewis and the News. Occasionally some Whitney Houston.
re: Huey. Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
Hey, Paul!
Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist.
Britney Spears, The Pussy Cat Dolls, and Coldplay
70% Rap - 20% Rock (not heavy metal or pop folk rock bullshit, 60s/70s rock and 90s bands like Nirvana) - 10% everything else (jazz/ blues/ reggae/ R&B/ soul)
Rap/hip hop all day
EDM & Trance are my main ones, but I enjoy listening to classic rock and some of the top 40 songs from time to time.
mostly new rap/hip hop. it's good "pump up music." same with a lot of pop i guess. i also like alternative rock (e.g. the killers)
Electronic music: Berlin Techno, deep house, ambient, french house Hip-hop/rap: Run the Jewels, Suicideboys, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Sampa, Blood Orange, MF DOOM, Death Grips Alternative rock: Radiohead, Sigur Ros, NMH, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Gentle Giant, Fishmans, Viet Cong
Considering your choice of music, could you please advise of SAT score, GMAT/GRE and or Gpa.
Apparently people who listen to what you do are quite smart.
Flume, Kaytranada, Porter Robinson, Madeon, Louis the Child, Griz, MO, Cashmere Cat
This sounds like a playlist I need to make now... (also saw the shelter live tour it was prefect)
[Something For Your Mind - Superorganism](
)
Britney Spears , Coldplay, lady gaga
James Blunt, The Script... some things like that.
K-POP
METALLICA
Everything from instrumental to world music.
It's mostly EDM for me -- Audien, Arty, Madeon, and Porter Robinson are the artists that I listen to the most nowadays. I'm also getting into electro-swing. It's basically just swing music that's been given a 21st century sound and it puts me in a good mood. I'll listen to anything by Parov Stelar or Caravan Palace.
I only listen to Tibetan throat singing on Youtube at 2x speed. It's like snorting cocaine through your eardrums!
I like both kinds of music- country and western
Nobody is going to address the wording here?.. Also, Gucci Mane and Tony Bennett pretty much for me
Kendricks DAMN is like Illmatic for the new generation. Top five greatest hip hop album ever.
Other than rap I'm a fan of metal stuff like Metallica or Alice In Chains. Celebrate my masculinity.
lol completely disagree. DAMN isn't even as good as To Pimp a Butterfly or Good Kid, Maad City not to speak of top 5 all-time.
p.s. I will say Kendrick's current streak of GKMC -> TPAB -> DAMN might be the most impressive first three albums of any single rapper ever (Outkast's southernplayalistic -> ATLiens -> Aquemini is just as impressive)
TPAB wants to be what DAMN is.
In my head canon I have "The Lost Tapes" as Nas' third album and would put that trio at the top of the heap.
favorite band: black keys
Two Door Cinema Club, Anything Jack White, Rolling Stones, The Lumineers, Eric Prydz, Jeremy Olander, Justice, Deadmau5
I listen to almost anything, I can't really say there is a genre of music I don't like (minus like super hardcore stuff that isn't really music anyway).
I have been listening to Logic quite a bit lately because of his new album.
Been listening to music in Spanish, mostly top 40 etc. Helping with my side project of learning Spanish. Quality stuff relative to most of the crap on the radio these days.
Armin van Buuren - Intense
at the moment.
Most Brazilians would answer this topic with "MCG15 - Deu Onda", but that's not my thing... rs
21 savage, lil uzi, lil yatchy, ugly god, famous dex, and playboi carti
I like tons of music, but when things are moving 1000000000 miles an hour at work and I can't afford to lose focus thinking about some catchy hook, it's classical or jazz all the way.
Something musically gifted to stimulate creativity, but meandering and non-repetitious enough that I don't get distracted. Makes great background music.
Like This(
).
Rock: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foals Heavy Metal: Metallica Metalcore: August Burns Red, Motionless in White, Bring me the Horizon, Architects, etc. Melodic Death Metal: Insomnium, Kalmah, Dark Tranquility, At the Gates, anything scandinavian really... (funny how they're supposed to be the happiest people on heart) Classical/Choir: Beethoven, JS Bach, Mozart, Debussy, Fauré, Mahler, Vivaldi, Purcell, etc. Electro: Cubicolor, Mazo, Kaytranada, Geoffroy, etc. 80s electro: Miroir, Nightstop, VHS Dreams, Kavinsky, etc. Instrumental: Explosions in the Sky, Rodrigo y Gabriela (best cover of Stairway to Heaven IMO) Hip-Hop, Kendrick Lamar, Beastie Boys, A$AP Ferg, Snoop Dogg (only his first album Doggystyle which was a true masterpiece), Ice Cube, NWA, etc.
We have similar tastes, but if you haven't heard them, you're missing In Flames - particularly the early era e.g. Jester Race.
haha couldn't agree more with you on that one... I love In Flames, though their new album kinda sucks. Cheers bud
I would say Future, 50 Cent (old days), Lil Wayne (old days), Travis Scott, Migos.
Sludge Metal is pretty good
Lil Dicky (I don't fuck with the war)
Apples to Oranges
[All day](
)
I give it 8/10 at best
Metal.
Amon Amarth, Trivium, Behemoth are my jam forever.
Oasis.
Great great stuff guys. Love your contribute!
Your mother chortling my balls
Future
I'm surprised that I haven't seen any Hip hop / rap people mention Big L, Eminem, or Immortal Technique.
Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous pretty much summarizes Southside Chicago right now. I never was a big fan of Technique, too obsessed with being lyrical/ his message and not obsessed enough with making good music.
I tend to agree with your criticism of Tech. His music is not something you can just throw on and enjoy. But he does have a massive amount of talent. His word play is top 10 arguably top 5; and despite his redundant/depressing message his content suggest a level of understanding, knowledge, intelligence, and sophistication lacked by the majority of other artists.
lil jon
Mostly techno, also listen to a good deal of trance and house. Outside of that there are a few non-electronic bands I like like Neutral Milk Hotel, American Football, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and old Weezer. But 99% is electronic because I DJ a lot and produce a little.
Music - Genre/artists? (Originally Posted: 03/21/2011)
What kinds of music do you guys like to listen to? In the car, or at work, or when doing random things...
Genre/artists.... GO
Hip-Hop don't stop.
I keep pornographic audio recordings on at all times. Except when I walk into the bathroom to take a shit then its Power by Kanye. Rachel Black when I am in a funk.
Music Factory, C and C
Everybody Dancing Now
Rage, Blink, and Pretty Lights
Progressive rock - Animals as Leaders, The Mars Volta Experimental - Radiohead/Thom Yorke, Zach Hill, Sigur Ros Jazz - The Bad Plus, Ben Allison, Jaga Jazzist, Miles Davis Electronic/Hip-Hop - Flying Lotus, Gold Panda, Wu-Tang Indie - Deerhunter, Pinback, Edward Sharpe, James Blake
I like it all. Lately I'm into club, I don't know why.
I've only heard One-Armed Bandit but I enjoyed it a lot and I was really surprised someone here would mention them.
This:
And on a more serious note, I like to mix it up quite a bit depending on mood. Some favourites: Rap/Hip-hop: Jedi Mind Tricks, Jay-Z Blues: Jonny Lang, B.B. King, Clapton Rock: Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Coldplay, The Killers, Kings of Leon "Metal": Metallica, In Flames Classical: Mozart and Chopin
I listen to all types of music outside the office. When I'm at work, it's usually the "Groove Salad" station on SomaFM.
Regards
I had the desk rocking out to The Beach Boys most of the day. I pretty much like oldies, jimmy buffet, classic rock, country. Cant forget random awesome songs like survivor, dont stop believing, highway to the dangerzone, pour some sugar on me. Pretty much any song can be played at excessively high voulumes to pump everyone in the vicinity up.
All-time Greatest Rock Music (Originally Posted: 02/26/2013)
Hey WSO,
I've been listening to tons of rock music lately and am wondering what others here are into?
Some of the stuff I'm listening to now hits pretty hard, and I'm just discovering the 80's (call me weak, I understand).
Here are my personal favorites thus far, to start off:
Edit:
Absolutely have to share these. Too good to not listen to.
Stairway to Heaven '73
Fade to Black '89 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbrLlDE7tNQ
November Rain '92
Trash Man - Studio Version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B36COXYrFr0
I was listening to a lot of trap and dubstep until Waka Focka's new mixtape came out, which sent me into a rap binge with a lot of Waka, Chief Keef, Gucci, and even Crime Mob, but now I've been listing to A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, and Manson a lot. For some reason I have Bob Dylan's entire discography in flac on my hard drive, so I guess I'll listen to that at some point.
Pink Floyd - their Pulse album is probably my favorite The Doors Black Sabbath Blue Oyster Cult Bob Marley Boston Cream of Clapton CCR Dire Straits Judas Priest Lynyrd Skynyrd Motley Crue Quiet Riot Scorpions Tom Petty Twisted Sister Van Halen The Who
...the list goes on
Throw up Heat's cover of Stairway, probably one of the best covers I've ever seen of any song.
I'm a sophomore in college and can't stand listening to all this garbage out here today; glad to see someone else on here with the same musical interests. Pretty hard to find people who are interested in classic rock these days unless they grew up in that period.
LOL. I discovered Judas Priest when I sped away from campus police on the way home to the tune of "Breaking the Law." Felt so badass.
That's my next PF album, and I'll probably follow it up with Van Halen, The Doors and Black Sabbath. I need to check out Bob Marley too, my buddy's been talking about his stuff for years now. Awesome list.
If you haven't yet, go check out Metallica's early material. I literally can not take it off repeat right now.
Loved W.A.S.P, anthrax, sodom, sepultura, etc. growing up. still listen to them from time to time
I weep when I look at the songs dominating today's billboard hot 100 charts. Such a sad decline from the 80's and the 90's pre-boy bands.
Good stuff. Let's talk albums and not artists, because good artists usually have long careers and varying work product over the course of many albums:
Pearl Jam - Ten, Vs. Van Halen - Van Halen, 1984 Metallica - Metallica, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets Pink Floyd - The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here AC/DC - Back in Black The Who - Who's Next, Quadrophenia Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath, Paranoid Led Zeppelin - All albums (an exception) Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers, Let It Bleed Derek & The Dominoes - Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs Dire Straits - Dire Straits, Alchemy (Live) Jeff Beck - Truth Rush - Moving Pictures Allman Brothers - Brothers and Sisters, Live at Fillmore East Stevie Ray Vaughn - Texas Flood
Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced?, Live at Winterland Megadeth - Rust in Peace Bruce Springsteen - Darkness on the Edge of Town, Born to Run, Born in the USA Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruction
Greatest hits to buy: u2, police, eagles, boston, Yes
Enjoy!
Not yet mentioned that I've seen: -The Beatles -Nirvana -The Beach Boys -Johnny Cash -Queen -Cream -Radiohead -Beastie Boys (rap rock, so halfway there) -Soundgarden -Queens of the Stone Age -Foo Fighters -I'm just gonna go ahead and put Dave Grohl right here, he deserves his own special spot. -Stone Temple Pilots -Audioslave -R.E.M -Bill Haley and the Comets -Chuck Berry -Buddy Holly -Elvis
Incubus
Lots of good ones mentioned so far. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Smashing Pumpkins -- Siamese Dream yet. One of the all-time great albums.
While you're at it, throw in Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Pisces Iscariot & Machina: The Machines of God in there. Hell, throw the whole discography in there save for most of the new stuff. The new record is very good though.
Yes.
blues traveler counting crows bush
King Crimson: In the Court of the Crimson King, Red, Larks Tongue in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black. Cynic: Focus, Traced In Air Mastodon: Crack The Skye, Call of the Mastodon, Leviathan Opeth: Damnation. The moment AC/DC bursts into the scene. With introduction by Steven Tyler and Ted Nugent! It doesn't get any better than this!
Every time I sing this song on stage it brings down the house.
thread looks like of everyones dads cd shelf
Be a man and take that incoming monkey shit on your real account.
Oh, forgot to mention Death Cab for Cutie and Postal Service
If you're mentioning Deathcab, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Arcade Fire. Not strictly 'rock' but hey what other act in recent memory can claim three successive great albums?
I like Arcade Fire, I'm just not as big a fan of theirs
