Alternative to sell-side ER/IB --> HF?

Some background info: 3.5 at a non-target, 3 internships -- 2 with an RIA and 1 at a long only (both firms are active managers)

My goal is to go to a GARP fund at some point after undergrad. Instead of taking the BB ER or IB route, does anyone here have experience at a T Rowe Price or some similar firm? Would a large asset manager be looked upon as better experience since I'll be taught how to specifically do buy-side research. Also, would it be a similar process coming from a mutual fund?

nobody will invest with you unless you come from a top ivy or HSW MBA. Even then it's still a huge stretch without background experience in investing

There is this thing called "track record". I heard it's pretty important in raising money and starting a fund.
