Am I crazy for not wanting to do Private Equity

Don’t get me wrong, amazing compensation and killer career opportunities. But what if you’re not very type A, and more creative? If you manage to get a dream role in VC or something that’s a better fit for you right after IB (but lower pay and gasp “prestige”) would it be better to do that right away if you’re confident you’d be good at it, or to do PE first?

Keep having first round PE interviews, keep advancing the rounds, but just don’t feel that I “fit in” and think I might get bored of modeling all day. Also have heard it’s pretty much banking 2.0, and I don’t really like the hierarchical culture and detailed nature of current work.

Wondering if something is wrong with me, since everyone else seems to want to jump on the PE train. Any thoughts or similar struggles?

Thank you for the insight! I love meeting new people and also diverse groups (entrepreneurs come from all sorts of places) so think that would be a better fit if I can do well in these interviews.

Yeah something is wrong with you. Everyone should want to do PE over anything else
