Am I dumb and doomed for failure?
I have a B to B+ average in my 3 years of university so far studying economics. But at the insurance company I work part time for, they treat me as if I can't do anything right. They have been cold calling people while my colleagues actually handle customers. I feel like I'm not learning a thing from the job. It's true I don't know as much as my colleagues but they have been working there for a year each and I only started a little while ago.
Do investment banking offices have similar office types?
People in the insurance industry hate their lives. Imagine going to a fashion show with models and striking out with the models only to settle for the dumpster fire wearing the headset directing the models on the runway with a clipboard- other industries date the models, insurance gets the curtain girl.
Get out of there asap.
What an absolute savage. Well said, +1, and I agree - OP, you need to GTFO from there before you wind up doing insurance full-time.
You are doing this kind of work as you have just started, as you said you have only been there a little while. Learn from the others and eventually you will learn the ability to talk to customers as your colleagues do.
In regards to your grades, I have seen people accomplish a lot more with a lot less. If you want it bad enough you will find a way to get into IB/whatever you want to do by networking, cold calling, etc.
The learning curve is always going to be steep to an extent.
Put in the time to show you are interested and learn the systems/process/method and results will come - even if it isn't what you want to do, I have never had a shit job or a job I didn't like that I didn't learn something from.
Chin up and don't let it get you down if you are having a tough time, think of the end goal.
PS. title is a little excessive.
Well, dude, you picked the insurance industry.
Unless you just absolutely love the insurance business for some reason, GTFO as soon as you can. Everyone I know in my life over 40 that works in insurance is absolutely miserable. Everyone I know from age 22-40 in that business has either left it or is on their way out.

Thanks for the posts. The answers were insightful and down right hilarious.
I'm going to leave after finding another job after graduation.
Working in investment banking would be a surreal experience.
Fingers crossed!

you can only fail if you try think about it
