Hi all! I am looking to transition after my PhD to consulting, and I am planning on applying this cycle. 2 questions:
1) When is a good time for me to start casing? I am not sure if starting now is too soon (don't want to burn out), but also know the process is complicated.
2) For other APDs (esp PhDs!) out there, have you told your advisor yet? I am dreading the conversation.....
Thanks!!

1. Depends on how comfortable you are with casing. 2-3 months before your first resume submission is a good starting point. Seen APDs invest way more and way less time
2. I gave him a vague idea when I was recruiting, but didn't explicitly tell him I was recruiting for consulting. Until I received the first offer I informed him. My PI was pretty chill and he knew I wanted to go to the commercial side of biopharma since my third year, so that conversation wasn't bad at all.
Happy to talk more in PMs.
