For ones with a structured process, many are at my school for summer 2021 right now. They recruit through the spring. Some ask that kids wait to reach out to see if they have anything right before the summer starts. One person I know reached out to one in June and got an offer to start just a week after the initial contact.

Totally depends on the firm. If you're just cold emailing though, I would wait until the Spring at the earliest.

This is false you should be emailing starting in the fall/winter. A bunch of places fill up before the spring so even if you get responses back, it'll just be rejections. The earlier the better. You'd rather they say "reach out to us later to get involved in our process" instead of "sorry, our intern class is full".

Incredibly varied. Some try to compete with the EBs and BBs and go a year in advance, others are way more casual and recruit throughout the fall or even spring. I know people that landed boutique jobs in early summer and started within a few weeks of getting the offer. As far as networking, can't hurt to start reaching out now- some places might tell you to reach back out in 6 months, but that's better than the alternative of reaching out in the spring and finding out they are already done recruiting.
