This question seems to come up fairly often lately. So do some searching, there are several discussions here regarding this.
But to mention something that I haven't said on the other posts. I have a friend at one of the banks that you mention who was in a BO role but moved into a portfolio management role after completing a relatively no-name executive MBA program and networking within the unit.
tried a search but found few threads specific to Asset Management. also being in london, i think the whole mba rebranding that occurs across the pond regularly isn't really that prevalent.
