BCG *NEW* Online Case Assessment
Hi!
Can anybody please share information about the NEW Online Case Assessment - the 25-30 min long online test that features 8-10 questions and a 1 min video at the end (not the 45 min long one)
I guess only very few offices are using this new test and therefore I couldn't find much info about it.
I have my test scheduled for next week and will appreciate any piece of information or advice regarding the test's structure, type of questions, or anything else really.
A lot of good Karma is promised to the generous helpers!
I applied to BCG Greater China and they used it.
They gave us a trial test to get a hang of it - 4 questions, 30 minutes, and ok questions.
The actual test was much more difficult than that: 8 questions (give or take?) in 30 minutes.
I personally hate this format. There's no opportunity for you to clarify concepts in questions. And because a decent amount of questions are based on answers to previous questions, if you get the first question wrong, you may get the next 3 also wrong because of it. In my case, one misunderstanding cost me half the questions.
Example from my experience:
One of the answers included something like "the percentage increase for market share", the word "percentage" here could mean either of the following:
(1) percentage increase = (new market share - old market share)/old market share*100%. For example, if the market share last year is 30%, this year it's 40%, then the percentage increase is 33%.
(2) percentage increase = new market share - old market share, both in the unit of %. For example, if the market share last year is 30%, this year it's 40%, then the percentage increase is 10%.
It was hard to judge with the context, and I had no chance of clarification.
I may probably be biased because this is the only online assessment that I failed so far. In hindsight, the "percentage" thing would have the first meaning to more people. However I still think the one-way video interview is better than this.
Thank you so much, I am sorry to hear it didn't go well for you - It's really annoying to lose points due to misunderstanding rather the lack of knowledge.
I have a few more questions if you don't mind:
Was it mainly math-oriented, more like PST, or more similar to a case interview?
Did you have both multiple-choice questions and open ones (a few sentences long)?
And one last question, What was the video like? was it an open question that you had to answer on video (similar to a case interview)?
Thanks for sharing your experience, It helps a lot, especially as there is little to no info about this test out there.
Np!
(1) it was like a case interview, with some math
(2) yes.
(3) if you mean the one-way interview I mentioned, it was similar to a fit/PEI interview, where you share a story from your life.
Bump
Hi all, indeed the new "BCG Online Case Experience" is still rather new and my advice may come too late for the OP (sorry for that!) , but for anybody else who is invited to take the BCG Online Case I maybe have a new life-saver to offer... I have recently created a >30 min video explainer in which I break down what to expect from the Casey chatbot interview and how to prepare for the BCG Online Case most effectively. I have even managed to dig out some links to free Casey practice tests out there that I hope remain valid for as long as possible... I really hope this video is helpful to anybody invited to crack the BCG Online Case. PS: I am ex-McKinsey myself, but I promise: no sabotage! :-D
PS: Hmm... not sure if my post does not get through because I included an external link?! You can find the video on YouTube by searching for: "BCG Online Case Experience (Casey): How to master the chatbot interview"
