Best B school for Healthcare Management for Doctors
Hey,
I am a medical student who is planning on doing a 3 year residency and hopefully apply to b school so that I can help run hospitals.
Some info about me:
- I will be in my 30s when applying to b school.
- I got to a lower tiered MD school (it was a good fit)
- Since health care executives still have to pay their dues, I do plan on working as an attending physician until I can successfully break into health care management.
I have a litany questions.

Due to debt, which will skyrocket to 300-400k by the time I finish med school, how difficult is it for physicians to get scholarships for b school?

Any tips on how to look like the best possible candidate for M7 schools (what is this exactly?)

What are competitive scores for physicians to get into M7 schools? I heard the bar is lower for physicians, but I am not sure if this rumor carries any water.
6 Does anyone have any idea how long it takes for physicians to break into health care executive positions after they get their degree from a M7 school? All the MD/MBA's around me went to top 50 b schools.
7 I believe that MD/MBA is a very powerful combination that can potentially open many doors for me, i.e. med/tech companies, pharmaceuticals, executive of insurance companies and ect. How correct am I with this supposition? Doctors in my field tell me I am wrong, but I don't think they are right as most of them spent their lives in academic medicine or didn't get their MBA from a M7.
Any and all opinions and advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As someone who has absolutely no experience in medicine but is going through the Bschool app process now and visited a bunch of schools -
Two which stand out from my experience are Wharton and Duke. Both have a healthcare specific specialization/certificate I believe. Both schools when I visited there were at least one or two MDs visiting as well and looking into the program.
Columbia I also remember someone asked this question in an info session and the Admissions person got all excited and proclaimed that they love doctors in their classes. Take that for its worth.
Also Stern imo I'd imagine would do quite well as they probably have a lot of access to NYU Langone. I'd look into that.
Personal MBA coach really hits on everything.
I just want to add a few points.
1) You can't really project 5+ years out. It doesn't work that way in the business world vs. medicine. Your career isn't a ladder; it's a jungle gym.
2) Wharton's Healthcare Management Program is top notch. I have several friends in the program and the professional connections they get, along with the personal bonding within their small group, makes for an extraordinary experience. Kinda jelly lololol.
3) Ehhh...I don't see a big difference in people with MD/MBA (I know a few in the healthcare management program) in like what they're actually recruiting for. Again though, what really matters is what you make of it, not what the "standard" or "hypothetical" path is.
4) As far as test score goes...just get 700 or above. You gotta clear 700. Once you do you're good. I know Wharton brags that "90% of people who got in had gmat scores of 700 or above" so if you're south of 700 then you fight against those informal sort of stats.
