best college thats easy to get into
whats the best college thats not rediculously hard to get into. I have seen on business week's list of the top bschools that about 26% of lehighs students had under a 3.5 in highschool, yet its the 20th best bschool in the nation aparently.Indiana (kelley) ranks up there too and has about the same gpa spread as lehigh. I have a about a 3.3 gpa in highschool so far, not because of lack of intelegence, im just a little lazy. In college I'll be considerably more studious though. Worst comes worst I'll just go to the university of iowa, and get into the hawkinson institute of business finance (hopefully) and get into a bulge bracket bank that way. Do lehigh or indiana have much weight in IB ? thanks
Lehigh sucks. Don't pay attention to 90% of the business rankings out there, whether they are for ug or MBA. Besides, most/many of the core feeder schools to wall st have no business program for undergrads.
Anyway, to answer your question, the best school that has representation in IB and that is easy to get into would certainly be one of the state schools, like Michigan or Texas. If you are in-state, getting into those places does not require a 1500.
Zala is right. You do NOT want to go to a "top 20" business school...that's a pretty bad college right there since pretty much every top college, except UPenn and UMichigan, does not have a business school. You want to go to a top 20 (or ideally, top 15) school overall. Those are the elite schools that get IB recruiting.
I'm not sure about Lehigh's placement on Wall St, but there was no one in my BB summer analsyt class from Lehigh nor have I ever heard of anyone from Lehigh landing a BB job (although I'm sure there are a few since it's a decent school..but no where near the caliber of schools most BBs recruit at like the ivys). Kelley is probably a better choice since they get some recruitment for Chicago-area offices of BBs.
If you really want IB, go to the best OVERALL school you get into, get a 4.0 GPA your freshman year, and then transfer to a top 20 school.
nyu and michigan?
cal
Indiana gets pretty good recruitment. If you can get in there, you might be in pretty good shape
Perella went to Lehigh...
Anyways -- definetely the transfering idea works or just network your ass off.
michigan, cal, texas, etc all require you to get into their b-schools and do fairly well comparatively to the rest of the class to place. Might want to take that into account. Just because it's easy to get into doesn't mean that it is easier to get a BB job out of.
Joe Perella went to undergrad at LeHigh, that's probably why.
Although, remember that Michigan is a BITCH to get into IF you are out of state! Two of my co-workers kids got into places like carnegie mellon and Columbia who did NOT get into MI out of state, so keep that in mind.
Hooray for being from MI! ALso, the business and engineering schools are much harder to get into than LSA, and you must get accepted from the get-go.
Lots of students choose NYU as a safety school, so it might not be as ridiculously difficult.
Probably not, but in the cases you're referring to they're usually applying to CAS or something - not Stern.
Take this with a grain of salt. If the kid was qualified enough to get into Columbia (even if it's just their SEAS program), then it's quite possible Michigan was just protecting their yield and assuming that he was using them as a safety.
wharton is "Relatively" easy compared to harvard, princeton, yale, stanford
indiana has a great program called the investment banking and capital markets workshop that places 100% of its members into BBs. network with the director and some of the current members, have a 3.5+, some good work experience, and you're set. check out the website at kelley.iu.edu/ibw
wharton is "Relatively" easy compared to harvard, princeton, yale, stanford
Not true.
almost evveryone i know here got rejected at those places.
Hmm who are your friends?? I got into Princeton but chose Wharton instead (I did get rejected from Harvard, Yale, and Stanford). I would have gone to Harvard if I'd gotten in (you just cannot beat the name), but otherwise I wanted Wharton. I don't know anyone that chose Wharton over Harvard, but I know a bunch of people who chose it over Yale, Princeton, and Stanford (I know LOTS of people who chose Wharton over Stanford actually).
My second comment was more about Harvard, Yale, and Princeton rather stanford but of course you can draw up examples that go against this as well (As can I). either way I'm sure we can both agree that overwhelmingly, people would choose to attend one of these other places instead of here simply because of the additional wealth of opportunities that the name provides.
know of at least two rising srs here who turned down harvard for wharton or wharton/dual program.
Everyone you know at Wharton got rejected at those places? You're a student there? Thats not the case for me (Wharton being relatively easier to get into than HYPS, well in my case P)
Texas, UVA, NYU, Indiana & Michigan all seem like very good places to go to get into IB.
The most important factors in choosing a school should be the football team, and (highly correlated), how fun the school is.
I think it's Michigan. Just in general, Michigan is a huge school so it's easier to get into out of state than UVA or Berkley (or UCLA or UNC). Michigan has rolling admission, and you can apply to Michigan as early as August. It is considerably easier to get into Michigan if you apply early. But they fill up the class pretty quickly so it becomes almost impossible to get into Michigan if you wait. I have no idea how hard it is to get into the direct admit program for Ross as an incoming freshman, it may be close to impossible.
Obviously if you're instate in California or Virginia than its easier to get into those state schools.
I must admit I know very little about Texas. I'm not sure what the recruiting is like or how easy it is to get into McCombs. Perhaps Texas is actually the correct answer to this question.
I would advise anyone who might be interested in going to Michigan to apply very early. If you do, you could end up with an acceptance to one of the very best schools in the country, with one of the best social scenes, in September of your senior year of high school. Takes a lot of the pressure of the college admissions process off.
your best bets are michigan or nyu (apply to arts and sciences, easy to get into)
if you can get in though youll have to work hard to make sure you get into the business school at mich or transfer to stern at nyu
It's pretty difficult to transfer from CAS to stern at nyu, i would not bank on that
Dav, Im in a similar situation, PMd you a couple questions.
Is their INv Banking Program only for undergrad or MBAs as well
Heh I dont agree with that at all. I'm choosing Wharton over Princeton this year too.
I would choose Princeton if I were you.
To the above: I'm pretty decided now. Curious though. Why would you?
wharton places more kids on the street than HYPS from what i have seen at two BBs
wharton places more kids to the street than HYPS at basically every bb
Whoever chooses Wharton over Harvard, Princeton and/or Stanford is an idiot.
Harvard, maybe.
If you look at the thread where a guy posted his summer analyst class from a BB, Stanford had the second most SAs after Harvard.
I'm sorry, if you're taking Wharton over Princeton, you deserve a punch in the face. I can see Wharton over Yale, but not over Princeton and Stanford - Reputation does matter from time to time gents.
