Best Groups @ Citi

I've been looking around the forum and it seems that the latest opinions on the different IBD groups I can find at Citi are all pre 2017. I wanted to know what groups would be best at Citi in terms of PE Exit Opps only (Particularly MF exit opps). I know their energy and power group is strong, as is industrials. From previous posts, it seems that MnA is also highly regarded. What are all of your thoughts on the different groups at Citi and how well they place into MF PE. (Particular focus on MnA, Energy and Power, Industrials, Media and Comms, Tech).

m&a is hands down the strongest for MF, still have a shot from other groups you listed

M&A is the best for exists but is very against recruiting so it must be done quietly. Power is very good if you want power related exists if not then it's not the best group to be in for exists. Industrial is good for exists and has good hours/culture - open to recruiting. It is a big group with defined verticals so culture can change depending on verticals. Comms is good for exists but horrendous hours, worst at city but open to recruiting. Tech is very small analyst class is usually 4 people and exits are poor - not open to recruiting. If I were to rank the groups you mentioned specifically for PE exists with some consideration to hours/culture: M&A, Industrials, Comms, Power, Tech.

Citi's real estate group is top tier and send to real estate MF every year Consumer & Retail used to be split but just merged very recently - something to look into

CM isn’t true IBD at Citi, nor do headhunters treat it that way. you’ll have a tough time with exits from ECM or DCM (as you would at any other bank). Best move is to go to IBD if possible.

Guy exited to APO. Just one data point- but MF is possible

Top: M&A, Comms, Industrials - All work a ton of hours (especially M&A, Comms) so dependent on culture Mid/Top: Power and Utilities, Real Estate - These are both niche but top groups on the street in their spaces Mid: HC, Sponsors Low: Consumer, FIG, Tech

As someone who works in this group... idk where you’re getting your media and comms info. Hard hours but good culture, friendly analysts, have not had a lot of analyst turnover (besides the normal second / third years leaving for good MF and UM exits.) it’s also a group with fun coverage / especially the media side. I would probably rank it the best at citi for overall culture / exists. M&A is good too but they have had Saturday exemptions for something like 10 weeks straight (source - m&a analyst I work with) so take that as you will. Comms / media really protects Friday nights and all day saturday.

Friend interned in their SF office for tech coverage. Says Citi SF do so much pitching but get little live-deals.
