BlackRock is solid since acquisition of MLIM
i thought BlackRock was solid even before mlim. otherwise, they would be mlim in name.
i know someone that did BlackRock last year and went to GS this year so definitely not a bad shop
they are a top notch firm. and they definitely are in the driver's seat of the mlim thing, not the other way around.
Anyone know about the Account Administration Group in Princeton, NJ or the Strategy, Operations and Finance Group in NYC?
both sound like gateways to a great life of back office monkey-dom
these are all backoffice groups?
YES, extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemely back office, ESPECIALLY acct admini and operations group. You will be absolutely MISERABLE beyond belief.
agreed
I assume BlackRock's PMG is the "desirable" group to intern with, for prospective traders. I have the option of interviewing with the private investors department, but frankly it sounds like a lot more dealing with the investors that dealing with the portfolio managers.
Does anybody know about the private investors subgroup of PMG and internships there (in Princeton)? It seems rather marketing/middle office to me.
GKA: heres what I know and you should heavily consider... 1) PMG is a very desirable group for prospective fixed income traders and are very very selective with their interns. And as far as i know almost 98% of the time they never hire anyone straight into it, they only hire internally from other divisions (mainly PAG or AMG). So if youre looking for a possibly full time offer i wouldn't bank on it at all. But if you just want a decent internship maybe take it.
2) PMG is almost all in NYC, the subgroups down in Delaware or Princeton are probably nowhere close to the environment/exposure i think you would be looking for. When i deal with the PMG guys in NYC its completely different from down there. And to be honest i've never heard of this private investors subgroup and if theyre already placing in princeton for that, i'd advise against it. Whatever description youre reading or hearing is probably a lot better than it's made out to seem. Trust me on this.
