Career Plans?

i'm russian. I'm a premed. Taking mcat this May. Then i intend to surprise my parents and join usmc as an officer. So the plan is to serve 4yrs and then decide m.d. or mba. so one of the major reasons to pick mba is so i could then get a banking or trading job in moscow. is that realistic? and i understand in russia girls would love me if i had a nice salary. but since im not in russia, how do girls here treat bankers? i am only interested in blondes with cute faces and no extra fat and not flat.

seriously consider what you are doing here. military service is very honorable but don't do it out of indecisiveness between MD and MBA. one IED or a little friendly fire and your life will be over and you won't have to worry about doing anything with your life. seriously consider that

i understand that infantry is a dangerous job. if thats the only argument against military, you realize that one can become a submarine officer in the navy or how about artillery or air traffic control in the marines? i am interested in infantry but even there the % of officers seriously wounded or killed is not that high. mountain climbing is even more dangerous and yet no one has a problem with 50yo rich fat men paying to go on guided tours that can get them killed. and they have kids, while i only have parents who can take care of themselves. what's wrong if my life is over and i no longer have to worry about choosing a career? on the other hand there is a 90% chance to survive, have a lot of adrenaline filled adventure, and even if i decide to go to med school after all, i won't be far behind my peers if i am to spend a 20-30yr medical career.

I doubt your parents will be thrilled at your "surprise".

Enlisting in the military is a major decision that you should probably share with your family before you dive into.

yes my parents would strongly disapprove my 4yr contract(but they legally cant do anythign to stop it). but they have no problem pushing me into a career that requires a 30yr commitment. they too don't know the difference between "enlisted" and "officer". only 50yrs ago most ivy grads were willing to risk their lives in Korea! also it is kind of ironic that they dont like russia and they were happy to see iraq bombed. just like most "russians" in ny.

Don't join the military. Do you REALLY want to sign your life away so early in your life? Again, one roadside bomb and you may be dead. Or worse, you may attend business school with PTSD and only one leg. Don't do it.

Protect your interests on a legal and material level first. If you want adrenaline, then go ride on a rollercoaster. It costs all but $35 and you're not in any real danger.
