Choosing a thesis topic
So I am starting to look for a good research topic to write my undergrad thesis about. I am currently a finance econ and CS major and will be recruiting for IBD roles after my masters in finance next year.
I am looking for any interesting thesis ideas you guys might have and are willing to share. I am currently toying with a few ideas, mostly related to capital markets, since I would ideally like to work at a global macro HF after IBD (hard to do, I know)
The topics I'm currently looking at are:
-
Passive investing, bubble or not?
-
The high-frequency trading system and its effect on financial markets
Not sure what experience you have in research papers like an undergrad thesis, but assuming it's your first time I'd recommend starting really broad in a certain sector (passive investing, sure), reading as much of the current field that exists, learning about existing data sources, then formulating a potential methodology, which is really what your thesis should focus on.
I found it much harder to start with an actual question without first learning what existing literature had to say. Have fun
Thanks for the input. Not much experience since this is the first time I'm writing something like this, but its roughly a 30 page project. The thing is I first have to provide a title and then have 2 mos to write the thesis. Thats why I want to pick the right topic from the start
I'm sure you can always change the title. For the sake of the paper's quality I would recommend not being locked into a research question before understanding data or methodology constraints.
I'm working on this too. Start with broad topics > read exhaustively > found a place to add value > data gathering > method > ask specific question > seek advice > write. Different people have different approaches but so far that's mine.
Thanks for the advice!
I think the HFC and algo trading idea could be interesting. With those, you could talk about how it has small impacts on a large scale (your call if you want to call it good or bad)c, but there’d a duality since they provide so much liquidity to markets (essential to tight spreads and investor confidence)
Yeah, im leaning towards that one as well. Thanks!
Hello, writing papers, preparing abstracts or something similar is always a difficult process, for me, it was always something overwhelming since I was not ready to sit for days on a task, but I often use https://edusson.com/write-my-thesis and recommend that you go to study this review, learn about cool writing services and the best writers, without wasting time learn more, make an order, and the team of professional writers takes care of your thesis. Better do something more important and feasible for you at this time, good luck!
