Anybody Familiar with Citi London / Advice needed (Originally Posted: 09/30/2010)
Hi guys, would appreciate it if you guys could provide some info/advice.
Last week I had a couple of first-round phone interviews for Citi IBD graduate programme (London office). I got an email this week saying that I've been put "on hold". Is this HR speak for "application denied"?
The reason I'm asking is that I'm sitting on a Credit Risk lateral offer at a BB which I have to sign by the end of this week (and start by the end of the month). If I do end up signing, I won't be able to to attend superday or any other interviews in London as I'm currently based in Hong Kong, and won't be able to get any time off for interviews at my new job. If I have a decent shot at getting further interviews, I would ideally reject the Credit Risk offer and stay at my current job in operations.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Tell them that you have another offer in HK with X bank, but don't mention what it is.

Hi
Right, I've never actually posted on here, so apologies if I've got the section wrong or posted an already discussed topic.
Basically I've got a Citi IBD Summer Intern 1st round in 5 days and could do with some help. Bit of background - I'm a penultimate year MSci in Theoretical Physics so not too clued up on the Technical aspects of what I'll be expected to know.
I just need to know what to expect in the interview. If anyone can tell me what questions they've had before / how they've dealt with any curveballs, I'd appreciate it a lot.
Thanks guys.
Buy an interview guide from here or M&I, totally worth the money.
Good luck.
Thanks!
Considering I've got such a short time to prep this, Is it worth buying the guide now or just stick to the vault one?
The M&A guide is infinitely better than the vault one. Definitely go for that one.
I doubt you'll be expected to know too much technical stuff since you're not a finance major. Just show you have the basics down and that you can articulate why you want investment banking, and especially why you want to work at Citi.
Thank you for all the advice - I just got through to Final round which consists of more Interviews with Seniors, case study with a written report, presentation and a group exercise.
Anyone have experience with presentation, case study and group exercises - I have no idea of how to go about preparing for any of them.
Yeah make sure you know how to do a SWOT analysis for your presentation. For the group exercise, make sure you stand out but don't over talk. You need to demonstrate that you can listen but also be a leader when necessary. For example, these group exercises usually require the group to come up with a team decision within a certain time limit. I find that as the time limit nears completion, the team rarely has come up with their solution. Someone will need to step up, summarize the best points and create a solution that everyone can be satisfied with.
