Commercial Banking RE Group
Hello everyone -
I am fairly new to the RE thread on this site and have read some interesting threads on real estate the past couple of weeks. I haven't seen a lot of information/threads/posts of people who work in the real estate group at a bank. I'm sure some people here have experience in this type of role, and I am curious how you liked it? Why did you move/stay? Is the end goal for you to get into an REPE?? Any commentary regarding a real estate role at a bank would be very insightful. Much appreciated,
Hi OverCompensatedTeller, whoops, looks like nobody chimed in here.... maybe one of these discussions below is relevant:
Or maybe the following WSO members have something to say: @burdell" TheDukeofLizards Dgibbs2013
Hope that helps.
I work as an analyst in the CRE group of a smaller, national bank. I really like it. There's a lot of structure, which I prefer. I came from private lending and the process here at least isn't as slow and bureaucratic as people say it is. There are a lot of resources at our disposal, for example, we employ an in-house economist that provides market insight regularly. My end goal is to probably end up on the credit side as I don't want to be a producer.
Great,
Thanks for the feedback. I believe the bank I am looking at has a lot of structure as well, which will be a nice change from where I am at now. There is a lot of ambiguity in all aspects of credit, which makes it difficult to focus in on every aspect voting members want to see.
The ambiguity in private lending drove me crazy. We have a very handy matrix at the bank I work at that makes a very clear distinction on where the bank wants to lend on all different product types, depending on whether it's a recourse deal or not.
I'm in CRE group at a regional bank right now and came here from a private lender as well.
How are you liking it?
