Concentration Question for B-School

Hi, I'm a rising Junior at a target school majoring in International relations and economics. However, my school requires a language portion as part of the IR major, and I am worried that my GPA will suffer as a result.

I write very well, and am considering switching to an English major, in order to keep my higher GPA. However, I am worried that English will not look good to employers/business schools, where the IR major might look better.

My question is, should I be more focused on the major or the GPA, if the difference would be around .2 of a GPA point?

Beginner language in college is generally pretty easy. It might require a lot of studying, but overall the class should not be hard. Just take Spanish or French. Unless you are taking Chinese or Arabic, there is no reason to assume that your GPA will suffer .2 (that's a big drop considering you are going to be a junior). Didn't you take a language in HS? Re-take that language. To answer your question, GPA is more important than major, but your looking to get into business, you should probably stick with IR or Econ.

Rereading my post, I see I was very unclear. I neglected to mention I will have to take 2 300 level language courses, which are not beginner level by any means. I also took the language all through high school and still struggle.

I am currently majoring in IR and minoring in Econ, I plan on keeping the minor either way.

IR is graded alot tougher then English at my school, and I just feel like my GPA will be alot better if I major in English, which will give me more time to study for Econ (I take Micro and Macro this year, so study time will be at a premium).

I guess the question is, does anyone care about IR as a "business themed" major versus English, and will majoring English over IR negatively impact my resume, even if my GPA is better in English with the Econ minor?

Hopefully that makes sense. Appreciate the help.

i can't speak from an interviewer's perspective, but english major would be a breath of fresh air and very intriguing if you can make an interesting story of it, or show some accomplishments in the field. if you can win a writing contest, it would reflect much better than just another IR major.
