Configure Partners, Restructuring & M&A
Anyone have experience with Configure Partners? Like Ducera spun out of PWP not long ago, these guys spun out of Guggenheim two years ago and have been pretty active in restructuring (specializing in a nice blend of lender and debtor mandates, mostly middle market and upper middle market deals). I hear Assoc 1 comp is around market (300K all in) but heavily skewed towards EOY bonus.
Interned there - great group of professionals
sophomore or junior summer?
Junior spring before my BB SA - was ahead on credits and had option to take semester off to intern
Awesome! Thanks for the comment. Any other data points would be greatly appreciated, esp around deal flow, culture, etc.
Everyone is extremely welcoming and polite, which allows for the shop to have an exceptional culture. To my understanding, the seniors were very respectful of the juniors' time. With the shop being so new, the culture is very entrepreneurial and possesses a 'were all in this together" type mindset. Comp and deal flow were good. When I interned, there were a few live engagements and all of the seniors had a healthy pipeline of new deals to come. This is a great shop to get in early at. If you're looking for banking long-term, they will offer you a very specialized and tactical skill set. Honestly, Configure checks all the boxes.
Can you brief me on their interview process? I have a first round with an MD next week and would like to know what to be prepared for. I'm coming from an M&A background
Didn’t have a formal process. Just networked with every single person on the team. Although, after I left, they brought on a FT analyst and believe they have him a pretty difficult case study to complete. As far as what to expect from your call, I can’t say much without knowing which MD. PM me the MD and I can advise
If you don't mind me asking - how did the interview go? I have a second round with the same group next week and any feedback you could give would be helpful. Thanks.
Curious about comp expectations here
I was told it was around 75K base + quarterly bonuses
Ignoring comp expectations, can anyone comment on their exit opportunities?
The team is great and the exposure is top notch - I could not recommend a better group in the Southeast. The firm has lean deal teams, which provides for awesome opportunities to grow quickly.
Clients: creditor and debtor client representation
FA Role: Sell-side M&A, Leveraged Finance, Creditor Committee Advisory
Exit Opps: MM value and special situations funds (e.g., Comvest)
Industries: Everything except fast-growing tech
Update: They copied Houlihan's Case Study (word for word); None of their current analyst have IB experience (all from back office, mid office, credit, and corpdev backgrounds). The base for an Associate is 75K.
Are you talking about the Buying and Selling the Distressed Company case study or something else?
No; the modeling case study for interviewing candidates
Also spoke to the debtor-side FA on one of their restaurant deals and they said they did all the IB work for them because the analysts/associates at Configure had no idea what was going on (they only did the CIM). FA was constantly cleaning up after Configure.
The HL case study is provided as a guide to complete their own if I remember correctly (or ateast one of the team members suggested reading it - its a pretty complex model with varying financing structures and a portion for creating a PPT deck. I would be comfortable with modeling PIK interest, revolver over-advances, etc. Was pretty challenging.
