Cornell Question?

Hey, I was wondering if there was a big difference between Cornell CAS Economics vs Cornell SC Johnson Applied Ecnomics and Management? Is the difference marginal in terms of OCR, networking, etc. or is it big?

The reason I'm asking is because Dyson/SC Johnson has a 7% acceptance rate and CAS is around 13%, so I'd personally prefer CAS if the difference were marginal. I'm also applying to Stern if it helps you in comparing CAS, AEM at SC Johnson, and Stern.

Thank You for answering

There is not much difference in terms of actual recruitment as many people know that majoring in Finance or Economics is pretty similar at the undergraduate level. Economics might be even more beneficial at points.

Finally, all those numbers are highly unrepresentative of the program's quality. AEM (Never says its full name) has acceptance rate of 3%, but I have seen some hardcore stupid kids. The place where AEM really excels is the network, people who had the same major as you are more likely to respond to you.

Finally, I want to stress the fact that recruiting is bullshit and has a ton of luck involved. The best think you can do to get better IB placement is suddenly turn black/hispanic/woman.

P.S. If you want to learn something legit, learn Computer Science.

P.S.S. I am a student in AEM with no job, but as I am typing I am sitting next to a guy with a Centerview offer.

Hey, thank you for all the help guys. I don't think I'll do AEM, but I'm starting to get swayed to ILR. I heard you can get great school year internships and a much more balanced schedule with some business courses in ILR as well as IRL-focused recruiting from BB's. I might apply for this instead of CAS. Would you say this is smart or stick to CAS?

If it's a marginal difference between CAS and ILR, I'll apply to ILR and see whether Cornell will give more finaid than Mendoza. I hear great things about Mendoza as well. Would you consider ILR and Mendoza as targets?

Unless you want to do HR, which I really hope you don't, do not go ILR. AEM, ILR, and Hotel are trash, but not all trash is created equal. ILR is the worst trash. Unless you want some major insecurities in your life, you should choose Computer Science and actually make your time at college useful.

Undergraduate business degree is bullshit, wherever you go. Choose it if you want to enjoy college life instead of studying.
