COVID is officially over

I think that we can say with confidence that COVID is over as evidenced by this weekend's celebrations along with an uncanny timing of extremely positive vaccine results. I invite those of you who will defend this weekend's antics to practice mental gymnastics here about how it is fine (you can probably skip your normal defense of mass gatherings by saying they were wearing masks).

Given this weekend, I would like someone to explain to me why we can't go to concerts, eat inside a restaurant, go to a football stadium, church. The one negative of this would be if cases skyrocket and lockdowns get worse. I need to hear from the people who have been saying the United States doesn't take COVID seriously enough about this weekend, shoot your shot.

Now that the COVID narrative no longer serves the interest of certain kinds of people and media I think it will disappear. I can't wait to hear the comments about "they were MASKED UP!" We know that gatherings of this size are not suitable right now. Please fire away, I need a laugh.

Should mention: I am not salty about Biden, I think it was the best situation possible. You guys will cut the COVID lockdown BS, Republicans are likely keeping senate so your soak the rich pipe dreams are exactly that, pipe dreams. Nothing will get done over the next four years, but you guys will be so elated you will probably stop burning cities down. So, I am on your side.

While I do not condone the gatherings, I will give them a pass for the activity this past weekend.  It was like a Wizard of Oz like weekend. It is not everyday that you can say ding dong the witch is dead:)

Honestly I see the shit about "burning cities to the ground" from all MAGA circle jerks....but what city exactly has been burned down?

COVID isn't going anywhere. NJ just introduced new measures and NYC is next.

That said, I was in Wash Sq all day and would repeat Saturday in a heartbeat. COVID can get deez nuts

Coincidence you bring that up as I'm actually from there. Minnetonka specifically. Been home all COVID and have friends who live in south mpls and downtown. Surprisingly their neighborhoods are still standing?

Unfortunately, people deciding to go out doesn’t make the virus go away. The US is adding over 100k cases per day and this weekend’s activities will contribute to that growing number.

Until a vaccine is administered (2H 2021 at the earliest) to a sufficient portion of the population, the virus won’t go away and it won’t get under control until lockdowns are properly executed, which won’t happen in the US.

You’re free to go to restaurants and do whatever you want but the reality is that youth can be significantly impacted by the virus even if infection is more rare or you may not know you have it and transmit it to your grandparents which may kill them.

Lockdowns and mask requirements are the reason the virus is contained to any degree. The US has 10 million cases with daily cases growing each day. Where do you see this going if measures are tossed out the window? People’s blatant disregard for others because they feel fine and want to do whatever they want is astounding.

The blame goes to young people but not the Democrats in general.

I was running when I saw the Biden parade in my city. Most people were in their cars and just honking, that's safe Covid wise so it's cool.

But then I saw bunch of young college aged kids all huddled up together in the public dancing (I avoided this group like a plague). These young people don't give 2 shits about getting or spreading COVID.  They were just glad that Trump lost.

A striking difference btw the car parades and the in person parades were that car parades were celebrating Biden's victory while the young people were celebrating Trump's loss (waving American flags and Biden Harris campaign flags vs. Holding up anti-Trump slogans). One side was being responsible with Covid and the other not.

Young people as a group are fucking dumb. And I'm saying that as a 20 something year old.

Now that the COVID narrative no longer serves the interest of certain kinds of people and media I think it will disappear.

The news sources I've read in the last week have talked about how cases are at an all-time high and death spikes are certain to follow in 1-2 weeks.

"Guess COVID no longer exists!!!11" is a bad meme.

Let's get back to this after Jan...Strong vaccine results were announced literally one business day after election results, come on.

Come on, what?

Why are you still politicizing this virus lmfao it's honestly sad. Yes, these people are idiots for gathering in large crowds all around the country while COVID cases are higher than ever and hospitalizations are ever increasing. You're not stating anything revolutionary bud, no liberal is naive to the fact. The constant urge to one-up your political foe is tiring.

I wouldn't have referred to myself as your political foe until the events of the last few months unfolded. Nonstop talk about how irresponsible it is to go to restaurants, no large gatherings, etc. You say you're aware but your entire party has been the most vocal proponents of lockdowns and calling everyone else irresponsible and look what is going on now ZERO regard. I believe that restrictions on businesses should be relaxed, but what we saw in the streets this weekend is truly baffling. I can't even count how many of my liberal friends have been going ON AND ON AND ON about COVID and how poorly America is handling it and how selfish everyone is and the first chance you get you have easily the biggest in-person events since who knows when. Complete hypocrisy. Can't have it both ways...want to make fun of people in mid-western states that don't "mask up" and you then have hundreds of thousands gathering in the street body to body? Complete bullshit artists.
