Different forms of Investment banking

If M&A, PE, LevFin, Restructuring are different types of Investment banking, then Sales and trading, equity research etc come under what?
Also, could anyone further elaborate the different verticals, because I have limited knowledge in it?

They still do fall under investment banking they just are related to capital markets from a trading perspective and outlook/performance forecast of capital instruments related to companies. The M&A, PE, LevFin, Restructuring deal mainly with financing the business and implementation of prudent business management and execution in order for capital providers to make a sensible investment decisions. Sales and trading, equity research, etc., is the performance side of companies.

Other verticals are in Debt Origination (DCM, Structured Lending) and IPOs - some say this is where the action is and is very nice. There also exists a different layer from the M&A, PE, LevFin, Restructuring - client relationship management. Its a dying specialisation in that one can no longer specifically be hired on doing only this role. More and more guys in the industry are multi-skilled and so this will fall away completely, eventually.

I hope my basic 2 cents helps you a bit.
