Do background checks include transcript?
I am a junior @ a target and have accepted a summer analyst offer at a BB in the U.S. I did not include my GPA on my application or resume. To be frank, I have a bad GPA. You can shit on me, but I don't care (I've learned and have improved). I don't want to get into why I have bad grades. No one throughout the entire recruiting process asked about my GPA, and I did very well in my interviews.
I know that I will have to do pre-employment processing and a background check before the summer. There was never any mention of "transcripts" by the firm. I am very concerned that they will ask for my transcript at some point before the summer, and they will see my grades and drop me. I am hoping that I don't have to show my grades until after having done some work, to at least show that I am capable of doing the job well.
I have already networked with MDs, analysts, as well as met my own summer class. It would be both embarrassing and heartbreaking to lose this offer. I never lied on my application by the way. I don't want to lose this offer as it has taken a lot to get here and it is the key to my future.
I am posting this here because I obviously can't ask the bank and nor do I have anyone else to ask. Please help me if you can; I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much in advance!
I think they could only drop you if you lied about your GPA. You never disclosed it so there‘s no reason.
Is it below the firm's cutoff? If it is then there's a chance they drop you, but I don't think it's very likely unless it's WAY below the cutoff (like a 2.5 when the cutoff is 3.2 vs. it being a 3.1 and just barely being under)
For reference, most firms say the cutoff is either a 3.0 or (much more likely) a 3.2. I think I've seen a couple with a 3.5 as the cutoff but that's pretty rare.
Also, you might get off with a slightly lower GPA depending on the firm's job description. Some will say "minimum preferred GPA of 3.2" which means it's not a hard cutoff.
There is usually a clause in the contract that specifies that they can cancel the contract if you dont meet a minimum requirement, but I have not seen being exercised personally (as none of my friends were below the threshold too)
So background checks actually do include transcript?
Mine did. I think it was more to clarify that you actually go to that school and you're a junior like you're claiming to be. Once you have the offer gpa doesn't matter a ton. I also had to resubmit my resume so make sure that gpa (if you include it) is the same as the one on your transcript.
My brother had a similar situation and after he disclosed his transcript and they saw his sub par grades for the first time they said nothing about it. I would assume if you’ve gotten this far you shouldn’t get whacked for it as long as there was never lying
