Do I have any business applying (asking/networking) for a summer internship at a boutique? Soph

Ok I've scoured a lot of threads and been creeping all over linkedin the past few days over break trying to get my stuff together for summer.

I would love to intern in either NYC (1st choice) or LA, (love Chicago too and would love to intern in basically any other big city away from home haha) doing anything business/finance related and getting paid. I had decent success for a soph at the last career fair my school had, a few interviews with some decent companies/banks. One rejection and no offers yet.

But then it kind of hit me I should be looking at some boutique/local places. I live in a big midwestern city (not Chicago) so we have a few boutiques around.

Gathered up emails/phone #s, trying to locate college (and a couple H.S. alums too). Was gonna try to call/email a couple days after the new year. Still not sure if I should email first, then call. Call the people that seem receptive? Not sure how I should handle rejection/being ignored. On one hand it sounds cool to try and be Bud Fox, but I don't wanna piss them off. Also don't want to give up if they ignore me/turn me away at first.

I also kinda realized my resume is somewhat lacking.

I have a 3.65, honors, from a non-target. Doing an internship now/started in the summer. Not really intense nor is it that finance related, but it is somewhat interesting.

But I realized I don't even have an unpaid PWM internship at a local UBS or Merrill on my resume, which a few of my classmates do. I was thinking about trying to pick one up this semester since I have a fairly big gap in my schedule where two days interning wouldn't be so bad.

Then after interning there for about a week, I'll start calling/emailing places with my updated resume haha. I'll be honest obviously and say I just started out but it looks better than not having it on there.

Still clueless on modeling and I'll have to go over some technicals, which also concerns me. I don't want them to think I am a complete moron haha. I will look elsewhere obviously to keep options open and whatnot.

Thanks!
