Do these interview hiccups matter in hiring decisions?
I was asked about how I would calculate the WACC for Disney during my interview. I said I would just use the standard formula. And while I was going over the formula, I made a mistake by replacing the interest rate on the debt by market value of debt. I quickly fixed that and proceeded with the rest of the WACC formula, albeit a little too slowly. Then, he asked me how I would calculate the cost of equity for Disney. I used the CAPM. When he asked me about specific adjustments I would make, I said that I could look at the industry average beta for the entertainment industry and make appropriate adjustments based on risk assessment of Disney.
At the end of the interview, he wished me a great day. I responded with “ok great. You too! Bye!” In retrospect, I realized that I wasn’t putting enough thought into ending the conversation the correct way.
Do these interview mishaps matter in their candidate selection process?
Depends on the how the interviewer perceives it and how competitive the process is. If the interviewer is some strict guy who wants to be anal about small things then you're dinged otherwise just hope for the best.
But idk how else would you end a conversation other than saying you too bye when someone says have a great day at the end... stop overthinking things
