Does major matter?
Planning on attending uni for my undergraduate degree next year. While looking at schools, I noticed that certain targets had far higher acceptance rates for their less popular courses than their traditional ones, e.g finance and accounting. As I'd assume I'll have have a higher of chance getting into those courses, I was wondering if IB's care whether or not an applicant majored in the more relevant programs, or is it true that you can study whatever, as long as it's at a target?
Any help is appreciated! Sorry if this is the wrong form.

Thank you for the response!
I am planning on applying to both the UK and the US for uni. However, this question is more in regards to attending target schools in the UK. I would like to major in finance, but due to the competitive nature of those programs at the targets, I might opt to go for something like philosophy instead. Am I fkd for IB if I do so?
what are your grades like?
I'm an intl from Europe studying my national curriculum. We're graded on a scale from 1-20 and I'm currently predicted a 19.1/20. Nevertheless, I basically fkd up my first year as I was getting used to the new school system (I had previously lived abroad). Thus, I didn't get a lot of A:s for that year in particular. Many UK schools require A:s in 20 courses (spanning all three years of HS) for their finance / econ majors, yet, I only have 17 A's. Because of this I don't meet their criteria, despite my high GPA. However, I exceed their requirements for the other courses I mentioned, e.g philosphy.
zz
Of course, not saying that I am going to get accepted. I'm just assuming that I would have a higher chance due to the lower requirements + applicants. Regardless, assuming that I do get in at a target, would a non finance major, e.g philosophy, history etc... hurt my chances? / compared to a finance degree at a semi target / non target.
If you get into the top-tier targets in the UK then your course doesn't really matter much. It begins to matter when you start venturing into semi-target and below territory. Good luck!
Depends, I think for a place like UCL, you’d get very different outcomes depending on if you picked Econ vs biology, but I think you can get away with anything at Oxbridge
Disagree, I know someone who got 16 spring week offers (including GS) whilst studying chemistry or something akin to that at UCL. From what I've seen, STEM + econ does just fine there. Things get a bit hairy when you're studying something like Education however.
Not a 'bit' hairy. Outside of Econ/PPE & STEM, UCL's placement really worsens unlike oxbridge where you get grace for studying classics (which is a joke).
lmao UK/Euro shit looks so complicated, the hell is a spring week and how does your grading system even work? Your countries are fun as hell to visit but horrible to stay, like attractive women from liberal arts colleges
