Edison Partners - growth equity firm - thoughts?
Hi all - I was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or industry intel on Edison Partners (tech growth equity firm based in NJ)? Would be great to hear more - e.g. reputation, culture, team, careers, etc.
Love to hear from anyone, but pinging a couple people I've seen active in the space in case they know CompBanker, APAE, throaway92, mrharveyspecter, Mephistopheles.
Thanks everyone!

Sounds like Mephistopheles knows more than I do. I know the name, but no real insight into the firm. My gut would tell me it's like some of the other regional growth firms I've come across. They're not doing household name growth deals, but likely have a couple of gems in the portfolio. Money lion is public, so depending on when they got in, that could have been a great deal for them. I'd imagine culture is pretty good, at least in terms of hours. I've found that non NYC/SF growth is more chill. Can't comment on the people or returns at all. They've been around for a while with ~1.5B in AUM, so decently sized and a good track record to be able to continue to raise funds.
Assuming you have an offer there or are in conversations with them, I'd say it's probably a good fund depending on what you want. If it's for a more senior role and you're ok settling down in the Princeton area, it would be pretty good. If you're younger or want to gun for a higher prestige role, you could probably get a flashier name in growth.
Thanks! Appreciate the color. I was able to get Mephistopheles’s thoughts, which was great.
I don’t know much about Princeton NJ though (living there, lifestyle). Would it be difficult to make local friends or network there? Like if you’re not a 1) student, or 2) married, and likely with kids - is it an odd fit?
Probably a slightly odd fit, it's pretty much a complete suburb. You're about an hour drive/train into NYC. I'd imagine it would be tougher if you were younger or at the Associate-ish type of level. With that said, your dollar would go far, it would be a more peaceful existence, but you'd have to be ok with that. Either that or you'd have a ton of friends in NYC and you'd commit to going into the city on weekends a couple times a month.
I think best way to gauge lifestyle would be to have a candid chat with the other associates and see what type of situations they're in. I guess there's some regional Rutgers campuses around the area, so maybe some younger people, but I'd have to imagine your social life will be limited.
Yeah I’m on the older side, and nor in the NY/NJ general area. I don’t really have any roots there (and ties in NY… I have some friends there, but it’s been awhile).
I’m just wondering what it would be like there in your 30s, and still wanting to have local friends… Or, what it could look like living there a bit longer term.
Talking to people there could be a good idea, though I guess given I’m on the older side, it probably is for some of the more mid/sr people.
