Entry-level CD Phone Interview

I have a phone interview with an F200 company for an entry position in its strategic development group. I want to know what questions I need to prepare for. Is this going to be mostly fit, or will I be asked technical questions as well? How will this interview be different from ib interviews? What overall qualities are they looking for? Thanks.

If it's a first, phone interview. Chances are it'll just be fit questions with HR. If it's a phone interview with the hiring manager, you might have a few simple technical questions (what is IRR and NPV? what is working capital? what are the three financial statements? etc.) They'll probably ask simpler questions over the phone and slightly harder questions in person.

I'll do what I can to help ya'll. But, the game's out there, and it's play or get played.

When I was interviewing for CD positions (should be similar to strat development) after a banking stint, the first call was generally pretty laid back, focusing on my role/responsibilities in my current group & my comfort w/ modeling & presenting. It's impossible to say what they will ask because every company approaches recruiting differently. Though, if I were one of the analysts interviewing you, I'd probably focus on a few things: 1) what you did, specifically, during your banking internship and whether you've ever done any formal modeling/valuation training (this can be important if they don't offer formal training) 2) some simple technicals depending on how you answered question 1 -- maybe a simple "walk me through a DCF" or "explain how the 3 financial statements are interconnected". I wouldn't get bogged down on these types of questions because it's a quick call and we can ask you these in-person, if necessary. 3) do you really want to work here or are you just interviewing as a back-up in case you don't get an IBD job -- aka your "real" level of interest. 4) how do you "fit" in the group -- not to be underestimated depending on whether the company is a "2 yrs and out" culture.
