Fans of UFC / Pride in I-Banking?
I workout at a local MMA gym - I've been doing so for about a year and a half.
To any current i-bankers - Anybody you know in the industry into mixed martial arts / UFC / Pride?
I'm wondering if I should put it on my resume next recruitment run. Fratty guys in general love that shit (and I'm on of them), so I'm assuming it might help develop rapport with male (possibly female) interviewers.
What do you think?
Thanks,
+Hammy
...Really? :\
I had boxing on my resume under personal interests and got a lot of good feedback.
I realise that there can be alot of negatives associated with the sport.
My question is essentially: Is anyone in the i-banking world going to look at that and toss out my resume off-hand?
I personally see many benefits and could rock / sell it in an interview.
Oh, and I would definitely add it under "Personal Interests" if anywhere.

Bankers aren't really into that sport in my opinion. They won't really care either way, no real potential down/upside.
I love MMA but it's full of half-assed Athletes, but that's another topic altogether.
If there's an ADDITIONAL section on your resume, it probably won't hurt to say you're into mixed martial arts, especially if you train in it and are dedicated to it. A lot of people reading that probably won't even know what it means (oh, so you must do Judo and Karate, right?), so I don't think you have to worry about negative connotations. I'm into MMA myself, but I have no idea how it's viewed by professionals.
You're right. At the professional level, the money's not great enough and the risk involved is too high.
If S&T is more fratty than I-Banking (Is it?), would it help more there?
I may omit from a Corp. Finance resume. I can see it being perceived as to "proletarian."

They might enjoy the violence, but most of them have no f#&king idea what's going on in the ring. With that said, having MMA on the resume might strike up a convo with the ex-military guys.
Very true.
I hadn't thought of that. That's a good point.

I cried with tears when CroCop got knocked out
I also had boxing down on my CV, most banks ignored it but at two of them we spent most of the interview talking about it and martial arts in general - just depends on who interviews you on the day.
Just as an FYI, I have been doing muay thai for a while and no one e ver asked me about it, even thiough I had it onmy resume
i have bjj on my res and always used to talk about it
i always questioned whether i should put MMA down on my own resume since i have been training in it for some time now. good to hear that some of you do.
Having Boxing under the Interests section of my resume always resulted in some great conversation during interviews.

I had MMA under "Interests", and it actually came up in several interviews. It's a great talking point, especially if the recruiter is in to it as well.
I've had it under my resume, but powerlifting actually got me more comments than MMA. Question: do you list it as MMA? or as Mixed Martial Arts (with the caps) or as Mixed martial arts? I know its nitpicky but it seems like people throw resumes out for dumb reasons all the time so I want to cover my bases.
