Fixed Income FX for Asset Mgmt
Hi,
Does anyone know how useful fixed income foreign exchange trading is for Asset Management? Another way of asking is how big a part is fixed income and/or foreign exchange at Asset mgmt firms?
I could really use your help. Thanks in advance!
It really is a matter of you're client relative risk aversion. Clients who are less risky will generally have more of their portfolio in fixed income securities. Most of the portfolios I've been coming across is about 20-45% in fixed income securities- so where I work, it's a big thing to know about the bonds that are out there. At most, however, we will not deal with any other bonds except Canada and the US. Assuming you have knowledge of foreign exchanges, you could bring a more diversified mindset to a firm.
In other words, it's a part of the picture, but knowing equities is still a significant part of the picture.
asset management firms (not retail client centric) would be a good way to go. As ThatsEFTup said, many individual clients own us$ denominated debt. Everything else can come in the form of an etf/fund
