Former Community College Student Advice
I am currently doing my first semester at state school double majoring in finance and economics, which will take me 3 years total. (2 if I was only majoring in finance).
I am wanting to pursue a career in either corporate banking or asset management in the future. I initially attended community college for 3 years due to my first year being part-time( not listed on my resume). Will potential employers consider this a red flag and reject me when they request my transcripts or do a background check? I still don't have any internship experience and am planning on attending a lot of sophomore diversity events this year, doing wall street prep, network, and prepping for both behavioral's and technicals.
Should I just major in finance, graduate in 2022 and later attend grad school?
Any advice or info is deeply appreciated, thanks, everyone!
You could just major in finance and do an extra semester and graduate December 2022. I would strongly advise against graduating may 2022 as it would put you in a huge disadvantage for recruiting. You won’t get dinged or red flag during background checks, but people will raise an eyebrow if you don’t have a proper story that ties with you attending a community college.
You need to lock up some internships. Major Key.
I wouldn't consider your transfer experience as a negative. Don't focus on things like that. Just do the best you can in your courses and stay engaged with recruiting and keeping a polished resume ready. Presenting yourself well, thinking on your feet, enthusiasm for the work are all things that are much more important than whether you went to CC or not. Good luck!
Thank you so much! Do you suggest I just major in finance and minor in economics in order to graduate by December 2022 or double major in finance and economics and graduate in May 2023?
Are either of those Masters? If they aren't I'd get to working and then have the company pay for it later.
