From boutique TMT strategy consulting to PE

Hi all,

I'm an HBS grad currently a consultant at a boutique strategy shop focused on tech media and telecom. I'm happy where I am at the moment because my firm (although small) is extremely well-regarded among our blue chip TMT clients, the work we do is very high quality and quantitatively rigorous, and the TMT space for PE and HF clients. This is the part of the business that I enjoy the most and the more DDs I do the more I think that, ultimately, I'd like to transition from one side of the table to the other. That is, make a move to a PE or hedge fund, more likely in a portfolio ops role and at a tech-focused fund, given my background. I'm wondering if you all think this is even possible, given that I don't have a finance background and I'm not at a big 3 consultancy. Keep in mind I'd likely be targeting a smaller shop, not the Blackstones or KKRs of the world. Other relevant info: Ivy undergrad with a technical major, and I'm told I'm in the top 10% of performers at my current firm.

Also while this isn't a move I'm looking to make right this minute, any thoughts you have on how I could best set myself up for a successful transition in the future would be very much appreciated. Thanks so much everyone!
