Goldman Sachs Finance (Controllers) Interview Advice

Hey, I will be having an on-campus interview with GS for an internship in the Finance (Controllers) Division for this upcoming summer. I was wondering what I should expect from this first interview, with regards to questions: technical or behavioral? Also, could you share what specific types of questions I should prepare for with this interview coming up.

P.S. This is my first legitimate interview as well, so I'm pretty nervous, so any suggestions will help!

I interviewed for their full time recently. The interviews aren't bad at all. I had a phone interview & then a superday. The phone interview went really well that it ended in less than 20 mins. The guy asked me why Goldmans, tell me about a recent event that's sparking your interest, what makes a culture inclusive. For the superday: it was 2-30 minute back to back interviews. Once again it really had the same feel as the phone interview, really behavioral and I didn't get one technical question. Go over your resume, why Goldman, recent event in the markets, and what is Product Control. I personally would suggest that you show interest in the markets as Controllers is really focused around that. I would also suggest studying a bit on basic accounting, like the 3 financial statements, as it's better to be over prepared imo. Hope that helps.

Definitely know your resume. Know the Finance division and how the teams are divided. You won't have as much to say about what team would you be in, but definitely know accounting and fiance concepts. Have a clear understanding of market trends and how the firm is standing to other banks. Finally, know the stock price and any major economic news (EMEA, BRIC's and the Americas). Good luck!

Had somewhat of a similar situation...had a superday, told me to update them with offers. Updated them with my offer, told me I was on hold and they would get back to me before the deadline. Contacted them multiple times to see what my status was and finally got an email hours before my deadline saying "We are still unsure, cant give you a definite answer yet".

Ended up accepting the offer I had and heard back about a month and a half later saying I didn't get the position.

Best of luck man.

General rule is that "on hold" is a dead end. But there are always exceptions to the rule. Good luck.

You're basically waiting on someone else to reneg/decline an offer, so its pretty much a ding. I'd look into other options at this point.

If they didn't say yes, they said no.

@Crystal-LI- Have you heard anything yet?

Hi guys,

Are you guys talking about the FT position? Because I interviewed for that as well in NJ HQs. One other guy who interviewed told me that he was already denied. I looked up my status on GSs' website and it says I got an offer. I'm extremely confused as to what's going on since they told me it'd be a week for an update.

Bump on this for 2015?

What's your background, current role, would you make more $ at GS, where do you live now? Need more info to provide opinions, however, Goldman is Goldman.

I'm in corporate finance right now at a Fortune 50. Same type of work that was described for the position. I live in the Midwest and would definitely be making more money at Goldman (according to Glassdoor anyway).

Is this considered BO or MO? Don't really understand the difference. Thanks.

Financial Reporting is back office. You'll work with Treasury, Product Control, Financial Control and Reg

I've been led to believe that corpfin positions are considered Middle Office by a number of people, though that's all second-hand info so maybe you know better.

Three pieces of (general) advice I got about switching companies:

1) Know the company, so that...

2) you can tell them why you want to make the switch to their company.

and

3) Don't bad-mouth your old company in any way, shape, or form.
