GS MBD Working Hours

Hi all, Hope all is well! I am very much interested in GS MBD and MS REI divisions. What are the average working hours in these divisions and how does it compare to S&T in terms of work/life balance and outlook for the sector. The reason for asking is that I am in the middle of deciding what summers to apply for. Many thanks!

Do you know if you're able to specify groups like credit or ssg? I understand it's competitive and they don't always hire.

To be clear GS MBD typically does not take Summer Analysts out of undergrad. Though, every year there are usually one or two who squeeze in from H/S/W type schools usually through some connection or some back door. don't really know how they get in. Now Summer Associates might be a different story, but im not too sure. You typically cannot apply directly to MBD through the summer analyst portal, nor choose MBD PIA/Credit/SSG/etc. Many of the associates in MBD came from GS IBD.. MBD has very few "analysts". As for working hours they still work a lot. diff groups have diff hours, but most still work closer to IB hours, but im sure they have more clarity on what their hours will be for the week (similar to any other buyside role). I have heard comp is a bit below market compared to mega funds, but I wouldnt have any first hand experience.

I know a handful of alumni who were summer analysts and received FT offers for AmSSG (Dallas). Also know a few people non-H/S/W within MBD (NYC) on the equity side, FT offer after interning

I believe this year may be the first time they've directly recruited new grads for FT in MBD.

NYC MBD PE summer analysts? couldn't have been more than 4 summer analysts over the past two years. I spent two summers interning at GS and honestly dont remember ever seeing more than 2 NY MBD PE SA's if even. Have seen a handful for NY RE PIA and Growth and the normal annual SLG class in Dallas (which I wasn't including). Didnt mean to say only HSW but that caliber of school including Stanford/U Chicago, etc. dont remember specifically which schools.

Edit: maybe they have started recruiting FT kids I wouldnt know and haven't checked, if so then this is prob the first yr
