Hey guys, was hoping to get some thoughts about GSAM - Fundamental Equity as I received an offer to be an Analyst on an investment team. Currently an IB Analyst. Hoping to get some opinions on career trajectory, exit opportunities, perception of GSAM within the industry, etc. All thoughts/ opinions welcome. Thanks guys.

I cannot speak to the role or exit ops, as it is too far removed from what I do, but I can speak to GSAM's reputation within the industry, particularly US public assets. AM is very provincial, so the fact that GSAM has significant offshore assets doesn't help much with the US business. To give you an idea how much so: Vanguard is having trouble breaking into Europe. Goldman's probably the gold standard in I-banking. GSAM is viewed as middling at best in asset management on the other hand.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.
