Harvard 2+2 chances?
Hey Guys,
So I'm a little bit OCD in that I like to have my ducks in a row before I go ahead with anything but I want to ask the monkeys here how my chances are at the Harvard 2+2 MBA program. My statistics look comparable to stories I've heard/posters in WSO forums asking about the program but of course admissions can be such a complex process, especially at an institution of the caliber of HBS.
The main purpose of determining said chances would be to see what I can do improve my profile before applying, so if you could lend any suggestions that would be great.
Also, is it best to apply in Early Round, Round 1, 2?
My stats:
2 years @ non-target, Finance major + Pure Math minor, GPA - 4.0
2 years (exp. 2012) @ target, double degree student - Finance major + Statistics major, GPA(finance) - 3.8, GPA(statistics) - 3.6, Cum CPA - 3.75 [to date]
GMAT - 780
1 SA in DCM at MM firm
1 SA in S&T at BB (this summer)
Founder of 2 business/entrepreneurial ventures (last year revenues 110K and 400K respectively)
22 years old

...of course I'll hopefully have 2 years WE in IBD FT by the 2014 start.
Thanks for the feedback in advance,
Also have 1 FT year of corporate account sales at a large telecom company (pre-university) + Volunteer outreach in a leadership role +Academic publication in Statistics and Poetry
I don't know if any of this shit makes a difference but I do understand that only 6% of admits are "traditional business majors". I'm not really "traditional" in any way, but I am in to a certain level academically and professionally.
Did/will either of your start-ups attract equity funding?
I funded both with a partner, the first an active principal and the other silent. I can substantiate the 9 months ~90% return I realized when I initiated the contractual shotgun clause with my second partner but that's about it. We didn't require/want further investment in order to retain control of cash flows and earnings.
In terms of the rest, thanks for the feedback. I definitely realize the slim chance I have, given my background, but I'd like to give it a shot with one caveat. In previous posts referring to 2+2 there has been alot of talk indicating that HBS frowns upon re-applications following rejections. Would I be blacklisted (so to speak) if I applied to 2+2 this year and reapplied after my analyst stint?
N.B. I'm planning to spend the 2 years following graduation in emerging market banking so I just want the security blanket of early acceptance, I know there's only 1 or 2 biz. majors accepted; It would be cool to be the one though.
Harvard 2+2 HATES business majors. As in they literally accept only ONE business major for each batch. The whole purpose of the 2+2 program is to give non-business students (who eventually want to enter business) a clear opportunity towards that path. Especially with all the news of how HBS is extra selective to people from a finance background, I've got to say, Good luck. You're going to need all the luck you can get.
+1 you look like you have great stats once you get ready to try for regular admission in a few years, but since HBS knows you'll be thinking of bschool in a few years they're not worried about locking you in now. the whole purpose of this program from their viewpoint is to try to get high performing people who normally wouldn't consider bschool (non profit people for example) to be locked in with an offer of admission.
You have fantastic states but you're not getting into HBS 2+2. The idea of that program was for non-business students which you very much are. That said, you shouldn't have any trouble getting into HBS in 2 years. Keep up the good work.
Fully agree with above posters - you are not getting in due to your finance major. If you got rid of that, then you would be a shoe-in. I applied with very similar stats 2 years ago (3.8 Math + Fin but from non-target, 780 GMAT, but my ECs were nowhere near as good as yours) and didn't even get an interview. I don't think you have too much to worry about though - you will get in later, especially is you are a URM.
My buddy applied from a semi target with a 3.8 triple major math econ and finance with INSANE ECs and got rejected after an interview.
Haha this Jerome Fisher all over again. Missed out on Wharton after high school because I applied to that crazy-ass program and didn't get in despite amazing stats. Don't want that to happen again.
When I say insane EC's I mean it too like Dude started programs for handicapped underprivileged kids that had like 1000 plus participants and shit. It was insane.
Hey guys. I'm also thinking about applying for the HSB 2+2.
