Has an MS Finance helped you?
I was accepted into my school's MS Finance program today (non-target NYC). I have a solid GPA (3.80) and I have a few financial internships on my resume. I was supposed to graduate in December but I feel like it would be best to pursue my masters as I keep being offered financial analyst roles in the back office but I want to work in investment analysis. Has an MS in Finance helped anyone? I do not feel ready to go for an MBA until I have a few more years of work experience. I have a good internship that should roll over into an financial analyst role in the back office at a bank but I am young looking (21 but look 17) and I feel like I have room to grow as a young finance professional.
If you have solid experience and know what it is you want to do, and MSF can definitely help you get there. I am currently enrolled in an MSF at a non-target and was able to secure an IB SA position for this summer (hopefully it still happens) and did a valuation internship that unfortunately was cut short during this semester. So an MSF has definitely helped me. I'm in a 1.5 year program, so I was able to recruit for SA positions, but FT is also attainable if you network hard and make the best of your interviews. Even though I am at a non-target, we have a very strong network at the bank I accepted an offer at, so I would definitely look to see if the same is true for your school.
An MSF is as good as you allow it to be, this is another chance for you to network hard and make some great connections. Whether you want IB or another front office role, if you have the right mindset and work ethic, you can definitely do it from an MSF.
why non-target msf would offer 1.5 year program?
I should have been more clear in my original post. The program is typically one year, but students have the option to stay on an extra semester and take additional classes to earn a certification. I chose to stay on the extra semester because I wanted to recruit for IB SA positions instead of FT so I can actually get a feel for IB before committing FT.
Can you provide more info on your MSF program? Which university, for instance? Is it January admission?
I would rather not disclose my university, but it is a schools known for STEM more than it is known for business. We are in a tier 3 city with an above average finance scene. All students begin in the fall, there is not a spring start option. I'm not sure what else you want to know about the program, but feel free to ask if you have any other questions.
it’s clearly MIT based on what he’s saying
